WHAT IS 50 BY 50?

Kenya's tree cover is estimated to be approximately 7.2 per cent of the country's total land area, according to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). This is relatively low compared to the world's average of approximately 31 per cent tree cover.

However, it is worth noting that Kenya's tree cover has been increasing in recent years due to reforestation efforts and afforestation programs being undertaken by the government and non-governmental organizations. The EEC has recently joined this family of reformers. With the zealotry of a convert, we aim to increase the country's tree coverage to 50% by the year 2050 and promote sustainable forestry and agrarian practices in the process.

ELIMISHA ENVIRONMENTAL CAMPAIGN

...is a subset of the Elimisha Charity Campaign that was initiated in April of 2023 to improve the forest coverage of Kenya and the world at large in an effort to rehabilitate the ecosystem. We also aim to engender the predisposition of the sapien species to protect life in all its forms and to ingrain a culture of conscious consumerism and tree planting among the youth in our population. We hope to establish a productive curiosity concerning the country's diverse flora.

Take up arms, for we are at war against centuries of the pillage and plunder of Mother.

ELIMISHA CORNER

Elimisha Corner is the prototype of an ideal ecosystem; the campaign's vision brought to life on a small scale. It is a biospheric utopia, meant for the imparting of knowledge to all those who come seeking it, including students from agricultural and environmental conservation clubs from around the country and friends of the EEC.
Elimisha Corner will also serve as a location for all club meetings and a home for the resources needed by the club, including botanical literature, saplings, and plots of various species of greenery to be used for demonstration.

THE CURRICULUM OF HOPE

As knowledge is the cornerstone to progress, we as the EEC endeavour to create an engaging and insightful curriculum on the subject of local flora that may be accessed manually or through an easily navigable application. The syllabus will be appropriate for all ages and shall be created in conjunction with educators and experts in the field of botany and ecology. We also aim to publish a periodical that will chronicle the organisations' achievements, celebrate our greatest and most creative contributors, reflect the changing attitude towards the environment amongst the country's citizens, and address sociopolitical and economic factors contributing to the exploitation of the country's natural resources.

A SUBSTANTIATED CAMPAIGN

A reflection of the gradual realisation of 50 by 50 is in our opinion necessary to offer our charitable members and donors the opportunity to see their donations at work, and also to quantify our labour and the impact we have on the environment in time. As such we propose the creation of an app or a website in which our donors may adopt a tree whose journey they would then virtually follow from seedling to thriving canopy. The aim of this project is to personalize the experience of planting a tree, such that it may be more than just an occasional altruistic act, but rather a marker of growth of both the caregiver and the adop-tree.

EMBRACING SYNERGY

The task at hand is abundant, Therefore, the EEC puts emphasis on collaborating with various national and international tree planting and environmental conservation organizations. The diversity of ideas and increased efficiency to be found in such campaigns precipitate outcomes superior in both quality and quantity. We as the EEC regard the rehabilitation of our planet as a matter of course for every member of the human species.
